The Darwinian theory of evolution is excellent at explaining how life evolved through the process of genetic mutation and natural selection. A new hypothesis may shed some light on this problem. Life tends to be better at dissipating heat than non-organic matter (a lump of carbon atoms for example). A plant absorbs energy from the sun and releases in the form of infra-red radiation. According to the laws of thermodynamics the universe always tends towards greater disorder (greater entropy).
